NASCAR popularity is geographically
diverse and growing in new markets every day -- a
fact which surprises many who still carry the perception
that NASCAR is a regional (southern) phenomenon. For
example, events are held in eight of the top ten designated
market areas (DMA’s) in the United States.
Many races are north of the Mason-Dixon
Line, reaching fans in Boston, New York City, Philadelphia,
Detroit, Chicago, Buffalo, and Indianapolis. However,
NASCAR hasn’t forgotten the West Coast as Phoenix,
Denver, San Francisco, Dallas, Las Vegas and Los Angeles
all boast major facilities. Soon the Pacific Northwest
and New York City will join the NASCAR family, bringing
scores of new fans and increased media notice to the
sport.
